MARKREE CASTLE
Collooney, Co. Sligo
Where we celebrate
Collooney, Co. Sligo

A 17th century Gothic masterpiece set on a 500-acre estate, Markree Castle is one of the largest privately-owned castles in Ireland. With ornate interiors, manicured gardens, and the River Unshin flowing through the grounds, it is the most magical setting for our day.

The day
Saturday, 22nd August 2026
The Doors Are Open
Guests are welcome to arrive and settle in. We'll do our very best to have rooms ready from 2pm — the castle is yours to explore!
The Big Moment
The ceremony begins. Grab a seat, take a breath, and get your tissues ready.
Cocktail Hour
Raise a glass on the castle grounds! Drinks, canapés, and good craic from 3:30 until 5:30. The perfect way to kick things off.
Let Them Eat Cake
Right in the middle of the cocktail hour, we'll cut the cake. Sweet, celebratory, and the perfect excuse for another glass of something lovely.
Words on the Stairs
Gather round for the speeches — delivered in true castle style on the grand staircase. Funny, heartfelt, and probably a little embarrassing.
Call for Dinner
Time to take your seats. The dining rooms await — ornate, candlelit, and absolutely stunning.
Feast Like Royalty
Dinner is served. Sit back, eat well, drink better, and enjoy the company of the people we love most.
First Dance
The moment you've been waiting for. Clear the floor — it's time for Padraig and Sarah to take their first spin.
Dance the Night Away
The floor is yours. Live music, good tunes, and absolutely no excuses for sitting down.
Midnight Munchies
Because every great night needs a second wind. Evening food is served — fuel up and keep going.
Last Song
Live music wraps up. But the night isn't over yet...
Last Orders
Last orders at the residents' bar. It's been the best night — we hope you think so too.
Rest your head
Make a night of it

What is the dress code?
We'd love for everyone to dress up and celebrate in style! Think smart, elegant, and celebratory. Ladies, heels are entirely optional — the castle grounds are beautiful but the grass is real! Gentlemen, suits or smart jackets are perfect.
Are children invited?
We love your little ones to bits — truly! But we've decided to make our wedding day an adults-only celebration, so that everyone (including the parents!) can relax, let their hair down, and enjoy the day to the full. We hope you understand, and we hope it gives you a great excuse for a night off! If you have any questions or need help with childcare arrangements, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Is there parking at the castle?
Yes! There is ample free parking available on the castle grounds. Please follow the signs on arrival and the team at Markree will direct you.
Do you have a gift list?
Your presence is truly the greatest gift. If you would like to give something, a contribution to our honeymoon fund would be very gratefully received. Details will be shared closer to the day.
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We are having an unplugged ceremony — which means we'd kindly ask everyone to keep phones and cameras away during the ceremony itself. Here's the thing: we want to look out and see your beautiful faces, not a sea of screens! Our photographer will be capturing every single moment professionally, and we promise to share all of our photos and content with you within 24 hours of the ceremony — so you won't miss a thing. After the ceremony, snap away to your heart's content!
What time should I arrive?
Guests are welcome to arrive from 2pm. The ceremony begins at 3pm sharp, so please aim to be seated by 2:50pm at the latest — we'd hate for you to miss the big moment!
I haven't received my invitation — what should I do?
Invitations were sent via Greenvelope by email. Please check your spam folder first! If you still can't find it, drop us an email at [email protected] or give Padraig a call on 086 806 1201 and we'll sort it out.
